Introduction
Tissueplasminogenactivator(abbreviatedPLATortPA)isasecretedserineproteasewhichconvertstheproenzymeplasminogentoplasmin,afibrinolyticenzyme.PlasminogenissynthesizedasasinglechainwhichiscleavedbyPLATintothetwochaindisulfidelinkedplasmin.
Thisenzymeplaysaroleincellmigrationandtissueremodeling.Increasedenzymaticactivitycauseshyperfibrinolysis,whichmanifestsasexcessivebleeding;decreasedactivityleadstohypofibrinolysiswhichcanresultinthrombosisorembolism.
