Introduction

PMSGHormoneisawellknowusedhormonetogetherwith progestogen toincreaseovulation justbeforeto artificialinsemination.PMSGhormoneisaplacentalglycoproteinproducedfromtheserumofpregnantmares.PMSGcomprisesofanalfasubunitandabetasubunit.PMSGhormoneissecretedfromendometrialcupswithinthepregnantmareuterusagingfrom40to130daysintotheir maturation,andonceextracted,itcanbeenusedtopromoteartificially estrus infemale animals.TheseassembliesproducePMSGhormonetoinducemare"sovarianandrepsouctivestructures.PMSGcaninducethegrowthoffolliclesbyovariesandresultsinovulatation.PMSGhormonehasanabouta4dayhalf-lifeofbioactivityinspeciesotherthanhorses.TheextendedBIOLOGicalactivitycancauseovarianstimulationandovulation.However,PMSGusealoneoftencausescysticovariandiseasebecauseoftheunrestrainedovarianstimulationandduetothesugarmoleculeswhichdecreaseclearanceofthehormone.PMSGismorelikelytobeusedthanotherpituitaryhormonesduetotheextendedcirculatory half-life.PMSGsolelyexhibitsluteinizinghormonelikeactivity,howeverinotheranimalclassesithasFSH&LHlikeactivity.

PMSGisacomplexglycoproteinobtainedfromtheserumofpregnantmares.This43-63kdaproteiniscapableofsupplementingandbeingsubstitutedforthefolliclestimulatingandinterstitialcell-stimulatinghormoneoftheanteriorpituitaryglandinboththemaleandfemale.ThusPMSG-Intervetstimulatesdevelopmentoftheovarianfollicleinthefemale.
