Introduction
FGF-23isamemberofthefibroblastgrowthfactor(FGF)family.FGFfamilymemberspossessbroadmitogenicandcellsurvivalactivitiesandareinvolvedinavarietyofBIOLOGicalprocessesincludingembryonicdevelopment,cellgrowth,tissuerepair,morphogenesis,tumorgrowthandinvasion.FGF-23inhibitsrenaltubularphosphatetransport.Thisgenewasidentifiedbyitsmutationsassociatedwithautosomaldominanthypophosphatemicrickets(ADHR),aninheritedphosphatewastingdisorder.ahighlevelexpressionofFGF23wasfoundinoncogenichypophosphatemicosteomalacia(OHO),aphenotypicallysimilardiseasecausedbyabnormalphosphatemetabolism.

FGF23producedinSf9Insectcellsisasingle,glycosylatedpolypeptidechaincontaining236aminoacids(25-251a.a.)andhavingamolecularmassof26.4kDa(MolecularsizeonSDS-PAGEwillappearatapproximately13.5-18kDa).FGF23isexpressedwithan9aminoacidHistagatC-Terminusandpurifiedbyproprietarychromatographictechniques.
