Introduction
FGF12ispartoftheFibroblastGrowthFactor(FGF)familywhichhasavastmitogenicandcellsurvivalfunctions,andplayaroleinarangeofBIOLOGicalactivities,amongthemareembryonicdevelopment,cellgrowth,morphogenesis,tissuerepair,tumorgrowth,andinvasion.FGF-12doesn’tobtaintheN-terminalsignalsequencepresentinthemajorityoftheFGFfamilymembers,butitcontainsclustersofbasicresiduesthatactasanuclearlocalizationsignal.Whentransfectedintomammaliancells,FGF12accumulatedinthenucleus,butwasnotsecreted.FGF12isinvolvedinnervoussystemdevelopmentandfunction.FGF12bindstoIB2(isletbrain-2),acellularkinasescaffold,andvoltagegatedsodiumchannelsandisalsoinvolvedinintracellularsignallingandionexchange.
