PMSGHormoneisawellknowusedhormonetogetherwithprogestogentoincreaseovulationjustbeforetoartificialinsemination.PMSGhormoneisaplacentalglycoproteinproducedfromtheserumofpregnantmares.PMSGcomprisesofanalfasubunitandabetasubunit.PMSGhormoneissecretedfromendometrialcupswithinthepregnantmareuterusagingfrom40to130daysintotheirmaturation,andonceextracted,itcanbeenusedtopromoteartificiallyestrusinfemaleanimals.TheseassembliesproducePMSGhormonetoinducemare"sovarianandrepsouctivestructures.PMSGcaninducethegrowthoffolliclesbyovariesandresultsinovulatation.PMSGhormonehasanabouta4dayhalf-lifeofbioactivityinspeciesotherthanhorses.TheextendedBIOLOGicalactivitycancauseovarianstimulationandovulation.However,PMSGusealoneoftencausescysticovariandiseasebecauseoftheunrestrainedovarianstimulationandduetothesugarmoleculeswhichdecreaseclearanceofthehormone.PMSGismorelikelytobeusedthanotherpituitaryhormonesduetotheextendedcirculatoryhalf-life.PMSGsolelyexhibitsluteinizinghormonelikeactivity,howeverinotheranimalclassesithasFSH&LHlikeactivity.

PMSGisacomplexglycoproteinobtainedfromtheserumofpregnantmares.This43-63kdaproteiniscapableofsupplementingandbeingsubstitutedforthefolliclestimulatingandinterstitialcell-stimulatinghormoneoftheanteriorpituitaryglandinboththemaleandfemale.ThusPMSG-Intervetstimulatesdevelopmentoftheovarianfollicleinthefemale.
