Introduction

InteractionsResearchhasshownthathepatocytegrowthfactordoesinteractwithc-Metoncogene.Thisproteinproduct,alsoknownastheHGFreceptorHFGR.Autocrineactivationandoverexpressionofthereceptorproteinhavebothbeenconnectedtooncogenesis.FurThermoremorethegrowthfactoralsohasbeenshowntointeractwithdermatansulfateandglycosaminoglycansheparansulfate.Theinteractionbetweenheparansulfateisparticularlyimportantasitenablesthehepatocytegrowthfactortoformac-Metthatiscomplexinform.Thisleadstokeyprocessesincludingcellmigrationandcelldivision,duetobeingabletotransduceintracellularsignals.CertainmodulatorsofHepatocyteGrowthFactorarealsoapparentsuchasDihexa.ThisisacentrallypenetrantsmallmoleculecompoundanditbondsdirectlytoHGF.Indoingso,theorallyactivecompoundisableincreasethepowerofc-Met.
