Introduction
Thebonemorphogeneticproteins(BMPs)areafamilyofsecretedsignalingmolecules,whichcaninduceectopicbonegrowth.VariousBMPsarepartofthetransforminggrowthfactor-beta(TGFB)superfamily.BMPswereinitiallyidentifiedbyanABIlityofdemineralizedboneextracttoinduceendochondralosteogenesisinvivoinanextraskeletalsite.Baseduponitsexpressionearlyinembryogenesis,BMP6hasasuggestedroleinearlydevelopment.Moreover,thefactthattheBMP6iscloselyrelatedtoBMP5andBMP7leadstoanassumptionofpossIBLeboneinductiveactivity.

BMP-6HumanRecombinantproducedinHEKcellsisaglycosylateddisulfidelinkedhomodimeroftwo139aminoacidpolypeptidechains;eachmonomerisexpressedastheC-terminalpartofaprecursorpolypeptide,whichcontainsa20aminoacidsignalpeptideanda354aminoacidpropeptide.TheBMP-6whichhasatotalmolecularweightof26.2kDaispurifiedbyproprietarychromatographictechniques.
